SNAP!

Poor Lige thinks that if he plays with teenagers, he must still be one.

Not really, of course.  But there is something about hanging around teens that brings out his competitive nature and win-at-all-costs attitude.  While playing games with our senior high youth group, Lige rolled his ankle and heard it snap.  Not good.

In the summer our youth group often stays late, after the lesson, to play extra games.  The kids and I usually stay for the regular meeting and then I take them home to bed.  So it wasn't out of the norm for Lige to get home a little after 11pm.  What was out of the norm was what he told me when he got home.  Just three sentences:
"I have some bad news.  I rolled my ankle again.  I think I need to go to the doctor."

Oh, no.

He limped over to the living room and removed his shoe and sock.  I tell you, it looked like a baseball was growing out the side of his foot!  It was totally swollen and starting to bruise.  It was bad enough I mentioned heading to the ER right then.  Of course he said he'd wait and go in the morning.  Silly man.  :)

Thankfully his ankle wasn't broken.  They *think* he ruptured a ligament or tendon.  We don't really know.  He *is supposed to wear* a fracture boot for 6 weeks.  He *really did* use his crutches for 2 weeks like he was told.  :)

These pictures just show a fraction of the bruising Lige had.  There were hues of magenta, blue, and pea green.  The bruising was on the outside of the ankle, on the inside of the ankle, along the base of his foot, up his toes-front and back-, and halfway up his leg.

Besides the pain, which has been significant, the hardest part for Lige was feeling useless.  He is a doer.  To sit with his feet up just feels wrong for him.  He is finally up and moving again, and his mood has come up as well.  During his recuperation time, I learned anew how selfish and spoiled I am.  I had to  pick up the slack, and there were times I was less than pleasant about it.  What a brat.  But it has reminded me to really appreciate all that my husband does.  I hope to not take him so for granted in the future.  I love you, babe, and I'm glad you are on the mend!
