Preschool, Kindergarten and climbing trees

Well, our string of "firsts" ended today with Anlynn's first day of preschool and Amana's first day of homeschooling. Both events went very well, and both girls did amazing! Anlynn very bravely marched into the building, hanged up her backpack, then decided, "I'm not going in there"! However, she didn't need much prodding, and after a minute she was happily taking a puzzle to the colorful rug in the middle the room. She got to ride with daddy in his "cool blue car" on the way to preschool. Mommy and the siblings followed in the van. On our way there, Amana asked to pray for Anlynn. She prayed, "Dear God, Help Anlynn have a good day and not be shy. Bless her...so she stays in line for snack time and obeys Miss Cindi. Amen." It was incredibly sweet and unprompted my me. Anlynn's favorite part of the day was learning "Criss cross applesauce" where you sit with your legs crossed. She's been saying it all afternoon!

Amana started kindergarten this afternoon. She has a really amazing teacher this year...oh, yeah, it's me! (And I am completely kidding!) We got off to a slow start. Amana got a little frustrated with the sight words, so we had to have a talk: It is new to mommy too, not just her. So we promised that we'd both try our very best everyday. Things picked up after that, and before either of us knew it, two hours had flown by. We reviewed vowels, learned 5 sight words, practiced writing vowels and numbers, and spent quite a bit of time on math. She really likes math, and seems to have taken to it the best so far. I know not everyday will be like this, but after our first day, I can honestly say that I can't wait to do it again tomorrow!

This weekend the kids had some time to climb trees with daddy...interesting that mom wasn't around for that! They had fun and daddy captured some great photos!

Good to hear your first day of home-school went good! I was thinking of you. It is funny that you mentioned Criss-cross applesauce - Trae is learning that one too!

Dusty,
I thought of you and wondered how it went. I'm glad it's off to a great start. Math wasn't my favorite subject to learn, but it was one of my favorite to teach. You can do so much with it...like using candy to count. Mmm...
Hope rest of the week goes well!
