I'm a Rainbow Today

Sometimes children find God in the most unexpected places. Our family loves music, especially Christian music, and we listen to a lot of it. There's nothing sweeter than to hear our daughters' tiny voices singing "Our God is an Awesome God" from the back of the van. But sometimes we find something other than Christian music that we enjoy too. Lige and I for some reason have taken a liking to songs from TV commercials! Last year we fell in love with a song from a DeBeors Diamond commercial. The song made it into our family's Christmas DVD! More recently we've found a McDonald's McRib commercial song and a Dell computer song that we enjoy. We bought them from iTunes and they made it onto our latest burned CD for the van.

The song I like is from the Dell computer commerical. It's called "Colors" by Kira Willey. Here's a link to the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ur5AYncDDE0 .

The thing that is a little funny, is that it's a super folksie, mellow, hippie kind of song! Definitely not what we usually listen to. Anyway, we were singing it on our way home from Kearney today, and even as I was enjoying it, I was thinking, "Boy, my kids aren't really learning anything about God from this song!" It's actually a children's song, so it has lyrics like, "I am orange today, loud and messy like finger paint on the wall. I'm a rainbow today, all the colors of the world are in me." Well, Amana likes it a lot and has picked it up quickly. She even has hand motions to go with it! When the song was over, Amana says, "Oh, mommy, can we listen to that song again? It just makes my heart beat for Jesus!" I laughed out loud with the realization that God ordains praise however He chooses. My hippie song in the heart of a child became a loving offering to her God. Who am I to tell her God wasn't in that song? God invented rainbows, didn't He?!
