Going out to collect eggs has become one of my favorite things to do.
That will probably change when the weather turns cold and snowy, but for now it's a small delight in the middle of each day.
My eight cluckie girls are now producing an average of 5 eggs each day. So far that is enough for our own family, and we have even been able to give a dozen to a sweet friend.
We are selling eggs for $2/dozen if you are interested. Since our brood is small, it may take us a few days to fill your order. But we would love to serve you if you are flexible. :)
I was curious to know if we were getting more white, brown, or cream eggs. I was also wanting document how many we were getting each day. So, I turned it into an assignment for the kids. :)
Each day after lunch we all go out to feed the chickies and collect eggs.
The boys march in just fine. Amana is still a little afraid of the chicken, so she comes into the coop after I feed them and they are all huddled around the feeder.
Anlynn is TERRIFIED of the chicken, but I make her come outside with us anyway.
She holds Lucy out by the garden while the rest of us get to work.
Once our work is done, we take our eggs inside. Each child has a graph to record how many eggs we gather each day and what color they are. We'll do this for 10 days. After our data collecting is completed, I will have Anlynn and Harrison work on some tallying and graph reading skills while Amana works on averages, means, and modes. So much more fun when you ARE the story problems, not just reading them from your math book!
