Jackson Polluck Art Day

Lige and I have been making efforts to get to know the students involved in our youth group. One student God has allowed me to connect with is a senior, Miss Allison. One evening after youth group, the idea of Bucket Lists came up. I asked Miss Allison which item on her list could be most easily attained. She said she would like to do a painting inspired by the work of Jackson Polluck. And so an idea was formed. I invited her to come over, bring paint and a canvas and we'd all do some together...me, Miss Allison, and the kids. It was a stretch for me to invite her and it was a stretch for her to accept, but we both did and today was a really fun day!
Miss Allison came today with her supplies. I pushed furniture out of the way, draped a drop cloth over the floor, and had the kids change into painting clothes. Unfortunately, Anlynn had to go do dance and didn't get to participate. But that didn't stop the rest of us. Even Isaac got to experience Art Class. :)

We laid our canvases on the drop cloth, picked our paint, and experimented using different types of utensils to splatter our paint. We used popsicle sticks, plastic forks, sporks, and tooth brushes to drip, splatter, and fling paint onto our canvases. It was so much fun!Walking around on our drop cloth, you couldn't help but get paint on your feet. I think this was a beautiful work of art:And a beautiful girl, too. :)

This was my finished piece. It's for the girls' soon to be re-decorated room.
I love that by choosing to open my home, I could do so much in one afternoon. I got to share a unique experience with my kids, create a one-of-a-kind painting on a dime, and build rapport with a shy student. Thank you, Lord, for the blessings that come with obedience.
