Mountain Moments

June 19-26 we were off on adventures in Wyoming.  Tent camping, Party of Seven! We packed and loaded Thursday night so we were ready to head out Friday morning.  Westward!

Before we hit Wyoming, we made a stop at Cabela's in Sydney.  We grabbed lunch from Runza and sat at the pond on Cabela's property to eat.  Then we went into Cabela's for what we thought would be a quick, uneventful stop for last minute supplies.

While discussing the pros and cons of a stupid new CamelBac bladder, we noticed one of our children was missing.  After calling their name several loud times, panic started to set in.  Horrible and frightening possibilities flashed through my mind as I dashed through aisles in search of my lost child.  After a quick look through the area we were in without any luck, this mama headed to the front of the store for help while dad took the other kids to look in surrounding areas.

I must say that the Cabela's staff was awesome.  Within seconds of my blurted, "Lost Child!", walkie-talkies rang throughout the store with "Code Adam".  (It is horrible to hear that ever, let alone when it's in regards to your own child.  I hope I never hear those words again.) The doors were secured and staff were on the look-out for my child.  In no time every employee's walkie-talkie heralded the description of my missing child.  And within 5 minutes (maybe less) my child was found by daddy, who ushered said child to front of the store to notify us the child was safe and accounted for.  It was a 10 minute ordeal, tops.  But the torture my heart and mind went through in that time was vast.  Did you guess which child it was?!

Yep, Isaac.  He had been hiding and intentionally not answering us...a 3 year old's game or mischievous naughtiness?  I didn't know whether to hug him or shake him.  I decided to hug him hard while I shook from relief and gratitude.

Thankfully, that was the most intense, scary, and eventful part of our trip.  Peace and blue skies from then on!

We decided to camp in the Medicine Bow National Forest.  Lige had a few campgrounds in mind, but once there we realized that they were full for the weekend.  As we continued our search for a campground, it was getting later and later in the day.  Tent camping for 7 people requires a lot of set up time, and with each minute, the sun was getting closer and closer to the horizon.  Amana started to worry we wouldn't find a spot.  To be honest I started to wonder that myself!  But then we backtracked at bit and found a great spot to make home for the week.  Silver Lake.

The pine beetle has made it's way into the forest, and the damage was evident everywhere, especially in our campground.  Our home sweet mountain home had been logged and replanted.  That was probably why there was a vacant spot available.  But we like how tucked away it was, off the beaten path, even it wasn't hidden by 100 year old pines anymore.

This was our food and supply tent.  It's great to keep all that clutter out of our sleeping space.

This is how we got everything needed to house and care for 7 people to Wyoming.

And this is us, the silly Reeds wearing our silly bandanas, all set for our first day of mountain moments!

More to come. :)
