I think perhaps I will have a recurring post feature entitled, "Among the things I love..." I will post briefly about something I delight in, treasure, or am thankful for. It will be recurring, but not regular. Just whenever the fancy strikes.
Today, among the things I love are clotheslines.
I have always wanted a clothesline. When Lige and I were hunting for our first house I would look for three things: 1. Central Air 2. A Dishwasher 3. A Clothesline.
A clothesline wasn't a deal breaker, obviously, since our house didn't have one. But I still longed for one.
Fast-forward to this summer when we were moving to the country. This wonderful property had so many wonderful things. Central air! A dishwasher! But, alas, no clothesline. However, shortly after we moved in, we were able to snag a clothesline someone had just dug up from their back yard and finally I had me a clothesline!
I'm not sure exactly what it is that stirs my heart about a clothesline. They are romantic to me. And whimsical somehow. They make me feel domestic and green and frugal. I loved the time I spent in the sunshine this summer hanging clothes. It was peaceful. And quiet. And I felt like I had accomplished something important for the day.
The weather has turned, and I am thinking my clothes-hanging days are over for a while. I will take advantage of any unseasonably warm days, to be sure. But then I will wait out the winter with a silly and joyful anticipation of sunshine, warm breezes and a basket of wet clothes on my hip.
