"A merry heart does good like a medicine..." (Proverbs 17:22a) Oh how that was true for me last night! In fact, I'm still riding high on that good medicine! A group of friends got together last night for coffee (and Sonic drinks!) and a whole lot of talking and laughing ensued. It seems like God always knows when my heart needs this time with dear friends. I had been feeling rather lonesome lately. Summer has brought with it fun spontenaity and flexibility, but it's also brought inconsistent connections with people who bolster my spirits, encourage my walk with the Lord, and just plain make me smile. What a treat to leave my kiddos with their more-than-willing-and-capable father to go spend the ENTIRE evening with grown-up girls! As I drove home, this verse from Proverbs was resounating in my heart. And I just had to smile!
A short list of things that make my heart merry today:
- A thoughtful God who knows my needs and delights to meet them.
- A group of friends who still invite me to coffee even though I'm no longer a part of the "in crowd" (not "in" the same church, not "in" the same town! HeHe!)
- A husband who understands the value of this time away from the demands of motherhood and sends me off with his blessing. Taking care of 4 young children alone is no small feat. But take heart, I have a mighty man who's more than able to conquer it!

I had lots of fun, too! Good friends, laughs and a late night - good for the soul! You will always be in the "in crowd."
