For shock value, I've posted the picture of the hystarical, crying five year old first. Don't be too concerned, though, because honestly she is totally fine!
A few nights ago, Lige asked Amana to get something off the top of the piano. She climbed onto the bench, stood up, and then just literally walked right of the edge! It was like a sceen from an old cartoon where the character runs off a cliff, hangs there a second, then falls. Except that here there was no hanging...it was just falling! On the way down, she grazed the side of her stomache on the corner of the piano. Rest assured, there was no bruising or bleeding, and barely any broken skin. I promise, she was fine. I've seen scraped knees in worse condition. She did have a pink mark about 6 inches long. Amana thought she was dying, as you can tell from the picture. Amidst the wailing you could also hear things like, "I have to go to the hospital!" and "I'm going to need surgery!"
Because Lige and I are great parents, we decided to make a little fun at our child's expense. Since we didn't have a band aid big enough to cover a 6 inch gaping wound, I ran to the van for our First Aid Kit. There I found gauze. In the linen closet we found peroxide, medical tape, and antibiotic ointment. There in the living room, I was Dr. Reed. Lige was my assistant. He was tempted to wrap the medical tape all the way around her body, but instead opted to use about 87 smaller pieces to hold the gauze in place! We dressed the wound the best we could and hoped for the best. Our patient was still in hysterics until we mentioned the idea of signing her "cast". She put on a great smile and hopped up for us to sign her dressing! Even Harrison inked her up!
