Last night Lige and I took Amana to see CATS. We had the most wonderful time! I'm not sure which I enjoyed more: watching the performance myself or watching Amana as she enjoyed the show! She was equally emotional (and loud!) for her favorite parts and her not-so-favorite parts. She's scream and cling to Lige during some scary parts. But when the White Kitty (her all-time favorite) took the stage, she gleefully yelled, "That's just like in our movie!" We were seated next to a pair of older women, who also enjoyed delighting in Amana's childish enthusiasm. They chuckled a couple of times as they watched Amana sing and dance her way through the show.
In my life as a parent so far, this was one of my favorite moments in time. There was something magical about getting Amana dressed up for a real trip to the theater. Lige and I have such a deep appreciation for the fine arts, and it was exciting to see that appreciation sparked in Amana. Looking over at her precious face, lit up so beautifully by the foot lights, and seeing the expressions of wonder and joy and awe...It was very special. I hope it will be a lovely lasting memory for Amana. I know it will linger on in my heart as one of my favorite "memories".
