Pumpkin Patch Afternoon

Tucked away just 2 miles from our house is a self-serve pumpkin patch.  It's not really a "best kept secret" anymore, but that's okay.  It's still a great place.  They have acres of pumpkins and gourds to choose from, and they are priced to sell!  If you're hoping for a place like Vala's Pumpkin Patch, you would be disappointed.  But if you're wanting a rural experience and affordable pumpkins and fall decor, then this place is for you!

October, like every month it seems, was busy.  Pumpkin patch trips, in my mind, are events.  Big deals.  Special hub-bubs.  With that thought, I kept waiting for October to slow down long enough to find a day we could ALL go TOGETHER.  As Halloween inched closer, I realized that was not going to happen.  So on the afternoon of October 28th, I took the kids to the self-serve pumpkin patch myself.  And I'm glad that I did.  We had the place to ourselves the entire time we were there!

The day we went to the patch, we found out they had just reduced their already low prices by 50%!  They also lowered the price of their giant pumpkins from $5 to $1!  That's right.  One dollar!

Harrison used a pair of scissors from the car to clip his pumpkin from the vine.

The Pumpkin Patch has shears and clippers available to cut your goods from their vines.  They also have big beach towels to use to carry your Giant Pumpkins to your cars!

After you're done gathering up all your pumpkins, gourds, cornstalks, and hay bails, you drive over to a tree with a lock box on it.  There are envelopes printed with sizes and prices and lines for quantities that you fill out in good faith, seal your money inside, and slip it into the lock box.
These pictures show the rose-colored memories of this outing.  But there were some less-than-stellar moments, to be sure!  Isaac got in trouble for running all the way back to the entrance while I was screaming his name and chasing after him.  Lucy cried because we didn't select her choice for the giant pumpkin.  Anlynn threw a fit as we carried the giant pumpkin to the car because she kept tripping over Isaac.  We had to stop and have a talk.  I told her to pull herself together because we wouldn't make it across the patch without her help.  I also told her that instead of whining and crying and being angry, we could be laughing about how ridiculous the six of us looked dragging this enormous pumpkin.  A few minutes later, we WERE laughing and giggling about that.

We had a great afternoon, just the 6 of us. The good with the bad.  :)
