Turning Eight

To celebrate her eighth birthday, Anlynn and I had fun little get away.  We stayed at a hotel in Kearney, got pedicures, went to Valentino's, went shopping, and spent some time talking about what it means to be an eight year old girl, made and loved by God.  It was a great time with my second daughter.  I learned more about her complicated, intelligent heart.  I learned more of what makes her tick.  What motivates her.  What she spends time thinking about.  It was such a sweet time for me.  I hope it was for her as well.

Anlynn has always wanted to be older than she is.  Whether it was 3 going on 11 or now 8 going on 15, I find myself always trying to find a balance for her between enjoying her current age and still looking forward to getting a bit older.  I will tell you, I do not let my 8 year old wear make-up out of the house.  But she loves it.  LOVES it.  So was I surprised when she asked for a make-up birthday cake?  Not really.  :)  The trick was finding one that Anlynn liked and that mommy was able to deliver.  There are some amazing make-up cakes out there, folks.  But they were well beyond the skills of this mama!  We finally found one I thought I could pull together and collaborated to make a few color changes and such.  This was my first experience with fondant...play dough for grown-ups!  My sweet cousin has a small cake business and kindly shared her recipe.  After a trial run, I figured I could make it work.  :)  Anlynn was happy with the results, so that means SUCCESS!

Oh, Anlynn Girl, I believe God has big plans for you.  I look forward to how He is going to use your passion, determination, and fiestiness for His glory.  I love so much about you:
-How hard you try when you put your mind to something.
-How good you are with babies.
-How your heart is moved by sick people and how you pray diligently for them.
-How willing and great you are at cleaning the bathroom!
-That you finally understand that reading can be fun and rewarding.
-How you champion underdogs of all kinds.

I hope being Eight is Great, Sunshine Girl!

Every time you describe Anlynn I think to myself, "That sounds like Kaleb..." Not the make-up part, but some of the other things for sure. Makes me smile. :)
