Again this year we loaded up and headed to Omaha for our annual Fourth of July Fun. We always have a great time, enjoy amazing fireworks and homemade ice cream, and treasure special time with family and close friends.
Anlynn was again scared of most of the fireworks. She has some hearing sensitivities, so all the loud boomings and whistlings are just not for her. Knowing this about her, my sister snagged a few "fireworks" that she thought Anlynn would approve: nice, quiet, MESSY snakes! She was right: Anlynn thought they were great and even went so far as to light them herself...with a little help from Aunt Sandy. :)

My biggest delight this year was watching Amana enjoy all the festivities. I've shared before that Fourth of July was bigger than Christmas for my family growing up. So to see my child finally embrace all the excitement was a treat. Many times in the days leading up to the Fourth, I was left wondering when my little girl became a big girl. She was running around with punks, lighting fireworks with nothing but a healthy respect for their power, oohing and ahhing with all the grown-ups. It's like I blinked and my shy, tiny preschooler bloomed into a confident big girl. It's delightful and terrifying at the same time!

Harrison wasn't very impressed with anything this year. Not really afraid, but not really excited either. We had several late nights in a row, and by the evening of the Fourth he was telling me he was ready to go to sleep! Well darling boy, not before these:

And Isaac...oh that sweet boy! This is how
he enjoyed most of the big show:

He was pretty funny though. When there was a slight pause in the show and people would clap, he'd sit up and clap with us then lay right back down asleep! He did that 3 or 4 times and it was so stinkin' cute!
Here's to another great Fourth of July!
