Catching up

Let me start off by saying, isn't the sunshine amazing? After long, dreary months of cold wind and snow storms, soaking up the sun is doing my heart some good. What a boost to my morale it is to see bright blue skies. I was feeling like a seed too long dormant; I was ready to burst into some new life as soon as the sun stuck around for more than a day at a time. Even after two days of horrible allergy symptoms, I am still chipper in my spirit. :) Things here have been busier than normal. On top of our normal busy schedule, additional things have made this week really draining. I think most additions were good things, but it's hard to remember for sure since it all took place in a whirl. Let's see if I can remember some...

  • As noted in a previous post, Amana had a piano recital

  • Isaac had to be rechecked for his weight at the doctor. After only gaining 2 oz in 6 months, he decided it was time to grow and gained over a pound in ONE month. And we have to pay for that visit...at least he grew!

  • Lige took part in a youth event called No Compromise (No-Co). He was the MC of the event, which he said was a stretch for him, but I knew he'd do great. No-Co was for Nebraska high school students and taught living out our Christian faith. We had several students attend the weekend sessions. I stayed home with our kiddos and picked up an extra one, you know, just for fun. Actually, I watched a friend's son while she and her husband went to a Weekend to Remember marriage retreat. We all survived. I even took them all to church...by myself. I'm pretty proud of that!

  • This past Thursday I went to a Business Leaders' Roundtable Discussion on the Importance of Early Childhood Education. How did I end up there, you ask? Good question, but I'm not going to answer that now!

  • Friday and Saturday I was able to attend a Pricilla Shirer simulcast at a church in Kearney. I was only vaguely familiar with her before the simulcast, but I still had a great time and learned a ton. It was great to be with women learning together about God and His word.

  • Saturday night we went to a friend's house to watch the Final Four games.

  • Sunday was our regular busy Sunday, except Lige also included a Parents Meeting and dinner.

  • Monday(was that really just a couple days ago?) I helped host a baby shower. That is something I love, love, love. However, when your nose is running like a faucet because of your allergies, you don't really enjoy serving your delicious Oreo Cookie Cake and stuffed strawberries.

Okay, so see. I really was super busy!

In other news:

  • Our camera broken and at the Camera Doctor. While Lige had fun drooling over new ones online (and so did I), we decided to see if it could be affordably fixed. Thankfully it can be, and for less than a fraction of the cost of a new one. We'll save the extra-super fancy cameras for a day when we actually have time to learn how to use it.

  • Isaac is talking a whole lot more. At his 18 month check-up, I was a little concerned by his limited vocabulary...Until I realized the big kids often talk for him or just know what he wants or needs. I love when toddlers start trying lots of new words!

  • The girls have started 4-H for the year. There first meeting was Monday ( I knew I would forget something on the other list!). They had a great time and are so excited for all they are going to do. They will be learning healthful eating, menu planning, sewing skills, horticulture, and fashion accessorizing. Can you tell this group is all girls?! I'm not sure how Harrison would handle the sewing projects and decorated/cordinated headbands and shoes!

  • We are gearing up to install a privacy fence. And by "we", of course I mean Lige! It's something we've wanted to do for a long time, and this is the year to actually do it! It's good timing too, because Maggie has become a Houdini dog at escaping our backyard. I'll look out our front window and see her galloping in the neighbor's yard across the street. I often don't even know how long she's been loose. Anyway, we are really excited to have a good looking fence!

  • There are other exciting things happening in the Deertales Clan, but those will have to wait, since this post has gotten awfully long!

Until next time...Take care!
