An unexpected treat

Yesterday the girls got to go on a special field trip. It was without me, as they were delighted to point out! Our high school's jazz band and show choir were performing at the assisted living center that morning. The young woman I mentor is also Amana's guitar teacher, and she was playing in the jazz band. The mother of this amazing young woman invited the girls to join her for the performance.

We were in the middle of a great day of school. Amana had already done her math test (she did amazing!) and we were working on her English assignments. Anlynn had done her reading and all her worksheets. So...it was really easy to say "yes" to the unexpected field trip! We finished up the English work, the girls got dressed up, and it was time to go. Well, we still had time to pose for pictures in front of the tree!

I'd like to know what happened to my LITTLE girl? There is something about this picture that makes me aware that the "tween" years are just around the corner.
I'm not sure I'm ready for that! But isn't she darling?
And Miss Anlynn. Every Sunday morning we have a battle over tights. Yesterday, she had them on before I could even remember we had red tights. She's such stinker! But the girl is a lover of people. While at the performance she sat on some old woman's lap. Do you know, that simple gesture may have been the highlight of that woman's day.

The girls had a great time. While at the performance, they saw lots of students they have come to know from youth group. What an unexpected blessing from Lige's new job. These students have really loved on my kiddos, and my kiddos love them in return. And it makes finding babysitters a lot easier. :)
