Things that last

I still have a lot more to share from our vacation, but we've been doing other fun things this summer as well, and I'd like to share those, too. I receive Family Fun magazine from a subscription from my Nana. I love all the fun ideas and I try to do at least one activity an issue. This past issue had a recipe to make Lasting Sandcastles. It sounded fun and easy, so I gathered the supplies. We got to it this morning. Here's a peak at our handywork:

Amana wanted to know exactly what to do and followed the instructions perfectly.

Anlynn, true to her nature, didn't seem too interested in the project as it was presented, and chose to go a slightly different route!

And of course I had to get in on the action! Pretty good, don't you think?!

If you're interested in the recipe, shoot me an email. It was a fun outdoor summer craft. It ends up being like play-dough and once completed you can let it dry, hence the name Lasting Sandcastle.

The two words Lasting and Sandcastle don't go together in my mind. Lasting implies longevity, eternality, firm. Sandcastles are fun, but the picture is more of having fun now because the tide will soon wash it away. I can't help but be reminded of the hymn that says, "On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand." What lasts? Only that which is build upon the Rock of Jesus Christ. Lord Jesus, help me be mindful of this as I go about my day. Remind me not to focus on the "sinking sands" of this life. Help me to invest in that which is truly lasting: You, your Word, and your people.
