Merry Christmas!
...In the middle of January! :)
So, did anyone notice NOT getting the annual Reed Christmas card? Yeah, that would be because this crazy mama of four DID NOT GET THEM DONE! I'm not sure where the month of December went. If any of you were concerned about not receiving our hand-made-arrive-on-the-day-after-Thanksgiving Christmas card this past year (I'm thinking of you, SL, you know who you are!) I am sorry. I promise to do better in 2010! By the way, the above photo would have been included in your card. Pretty good for four little ones, don't you think?!
We had wonderful Christmases. With the record snowfall, we had to be flexible to be safe. That meant leaving earlier than planned, staying put for a few extra days, and post-poning one Christmas. All in all, everything turned out really well. We had special, quality time with each set of families. A special treat for me was seeing my kids enjoy their cousins so much. Many of them are about the same age, and they laughed and played together all afternoon. We love you all, and thank you for a loving and Merry Christmas!
And then suddenly it's the middle of January! We've started school back up. Amana is doing really well. She really likes getting A pluses on her spelling tests. If she misses even one, she's disappointed. She enjoys reading, and being a reader myself, this makes me so happy. In addition to her school reading, I've found her reading to her siblings and even to herself. Also, she received "Little House in the Big Woods" for Christmas and we take turns reading a page together when the little kids are resting. I've really noticed Math clicking for her. She has a decent memory, but she was having a little trouble with addition. She really likes patterns, so when I found a way to teach her with a pattern in mind, suddenly things started clicking! It was so fun to be the one to not only teach her, but also the one to witness her "get it". Amana got to spend the night at a friend's house last weekend. She had a great time, of course. And it was incredible to see how well Anlynn and Harrison played together when she was gone!
Anlynn got a CD player from Lige and I for Christmas. She LOVES it! I hear her music all the time. Lige has been out of town this week, so I've been a little more lenient than usually. The other night when I went to bed, I heard the music on, very softly! Normally I would have turned it off, but I decided it wasn't hurting anything. She's started preschool up again. It had been about a month since she had been there because of snow days and Christmas break. She was sad to learn her best friend wasn't able to be in the class any more. Thankfully she has other good friends.
Lige told Harrison when he left that Harrison was to be the man of the house and take care of mommy. I'm not sure if it's because of the pep-talk or not, but Harrison has been really loving this week! When I get him up in the morning or from nap, he gives me a huge grin and hugs me tighter than normal. It's the best! When we're in parking lots, sometimes he doesn't want to hold my hand. To get him to cooperate, I say, "Can you hold mommy's hand to keep me safe?" I said that to him this week and he says in reply, "Oh sure, Mommy! I'm big...and strong!" I think Lige's talk had sunk in! :)
Isaac...such a sweet boy! He is such a joy! He is such a happy and content little guy. Five months old! He loves to roll and play on the floor. He's been grabbing his feet, and that is one of my favorite stages! He has a happy voice and he "talks" a lot! He's had cereal a few times, but doesn't care for it yet. He's been sleeping really well, thankfully! I now know him well enough to lay him down awake and he'll fall asleep without fussing. It's such a treasure to know my babies so well. I am thankful that I have been home with them to teach them, to learn from them, and to witness their milestones.
And one more thing to make you smile:
Nine times out of ten, if we can't understand what Harrison is saying, we'll ask Anlynn and she tells us exactly what Harrison meant. It's come in handy quite often. At Christmas, we talked about her being his translator. In the van sometime later, out of nowhere, she says, "I speak Harrison." We cracked up!

I DID miss your day-after-Thanksgiving Christmas card--you know me so well! :) Great picture by the way. I love how you get Harrison to hold your hand. I will need to use that on Aaron. Great idea!
