We had another great 4H Fair season for 2016.
We started off the fun with the 4H Fashion Show and Clothing Judging on July 12th.
For this year Amana chose to make a mint green peplum top. I convinced Anlynn to make another skirt, this time with piping and pockets. Both girls worked very hard, and I am proud of their efforts.
Each girl received purple ribbons for both their modeling and their construction!
Anlynn came away with the Grand Champion ribbon for Fashion Modeling in the middle unit AND the Grand Champion for Jr. Clothing! She was chosen as alternate model for State Fair.
As you can imagine, this was a bit difficult for Amana. However, I am proud of both girls for the way they showed grace to each other in this situation. Anlynn was able to celebrate her success without rubbing it in Amana's face. Amana fought hard to manage her personal disappointment while still being proud of her sister's accomplishment. 4H is full of life lessons, you can be sure of it!
Another exciting part of Fair Week 2016 was that Harrison was finally old enough to show pigs!
Is this not the cutest kid you've ever seen?! In his white t-shirt and slicked over hair, I thought it looked like he stepped out of the 1950s!
Harrison did a great job during Swine Showmanship. He was a bit nervous but still had fun. As a junior showman, he was awarded a purple ribbon.
Anlynn ended up with a sassy pig with a mind of her own. Anlynn had to work hard in the ring! As a junior showman, she received a purple ribbon for showmanship.
Amana did a great job, as well. She was in the Intermediate division where they did not hand out purple ribbons to all the exhibitors. She earned a blue ribbon this time around. However, the judge told her she had all the fundamentals down and just needed a more cooperative partner.
Fair Week 2016 was literally the hottest week of the year, reaching 100 degrees nearly all week. 4H is all kinds of hard work. The kids get up earlier than they are used to getting up and work harder than they normally have to work. But when all is said and done, we find it more than worth it. :)
