Oh, Amana.
Wednesday evening she came running from the living room where she had been watching television. She was rubbing her eye and complaining of pain. It was red, both the lids and the eye itself. She said it felt like there was something in it. I inspected it the best I could but couldn't see anything. I rinsed it with saline solution just in case. It was still red and bothering her, so she stayed home from AWANA. She's almost 12, so all of this played out with a lot more emotion. Cue tears and wild hand-flinging. ;)
Thursday morning Amana's eye wasn't any better, so we took her into the doctor. They put a yellow dye in her eye then looked at it with a black light.
Diagnosis: Two scratches on her cornea.
We have no idea how this happened. Thankfully, the eye is good at healing itself. With the help of some drops for pain and my sunglasses to shade the glaring light, she should be fully recovered in a few days.
It's always exciting here at The Reeds!
