Going back a bit...

Two months ago there was a birthday at our house.  We had a nice celebration and a happy 3 year old.  Then we had 6 days to pack and prepare for our vacation, and the pictures of our sweet birthday girl's celebration sat lonely in a computer file.  Until today!

This was the first birthday that Lucy was fully aware of.  She knew her birthday was coming and she got more excited the closer it got!  She would tell strangers and friends alike, "Me birfday! Me free!"
Lucy received many nice gifts and enjoyed opening them all!  She loves her warm jammies, her Princess Anna doll, her Doc McStuffins doctor kit, and even just this morning....her tambourine from her instrument kit!
We can't believe this sweet, funny, wild thing is already three.  We have never before had a three year old who didn't already have a younger sibling.  Lucy brings such joy and delight to our days that it's hard to believe Lige was ever convinced we didn't need a fifth child! Ha!  We snuggle her everyday, thankful that God's ways are so much higher and better than ours!

Lucy Nicole, we just adore you.
Three Thoughts about Lucy as a Three Year Old:

  • Lucy is a charming mix of girlish foo-foo fancy-pants and rough and tumble adventurer (from chasing after wild brothers!).
  • Lucy always speaks of herself using "Me", never "I".  Common examples would be, "Me want a drink of water."  "Me love mommy!"  "Me no want go outside."  At the moment these feel so silly to record for posterity.  But there's part of this mama that already knows how quickly you forget these cute little things you think you'll never, ever forget.  I know one day, maybe even soon, I'll read this post and be shocked that Lucy no longer speaks this way.  And I'll be thankful I thought to treasure it here.
  • Lucy has a little catch phrase as of late.  Several times a day she will laugh out, "Too funny!"  And when she's really tickled, she covers her mouth with her hand, scrunches up her shoulders and squints her eyes.  Trust me.  It's adorable!
***I think I have a responsibility to mention that while we are blessed beyond measure by our sweet number five, it still took me two months to record her birthday.  What can I say?  She is, after all Number Five!***
