Our family was able to sneak away for a week recently. With the call of the mountains ringing in our ears, we loaded up and headed to Colorado.
Our trip had two parts. The second part I'll save for another post. :) The first part was a three day biking tour for Lige called Pedal the Plains. It was so fun for the kids and I to be there to support him.
Lige has participated in several endurance activities over the years, but this was by far the longest and most demanding. Over the course of three days, he cycled over 190 miles around eastern Colorado. On his last day, he checked off an item from his Bucket List: Complete a Century Ride (100 miles in one day). We are so proud of him!
Day one
Yuma, CO to Wray, CO
27 miles on bike
About 30 more miles by car because of alternate route for supporters
Day Two
Wray, CO to Burlington, CO
61 miles on bike
Again, way more miles by car due to alternate route
Day Three
Burlington, CO to Yuma, CO
100 miles on bike!
About 273 miles by car because of alternate route and additional back-roads-driving trying to get ahead of Lige several times to
cheer him on!
Pedal the Plains became a reality for Lige because he was selected to be a part of Team Viaero 4G. Viaero Wireless was a huge supporter of this event. As a part of publicity, they held a contest this summer for their vendors and customers. Lige entered the contest, which included an essay, and hoped for the best. It was quite a happy surprise when he received the email that he had been selected as one of the winners! About 60 people entered, only three were selected and Lige was one of them! Whoo Hoo! This meant he received registration for Pedal the Plains, a Team Viaero 4G jersey, and the support of 9 other teammates, including the Vice President of Viaero.
The Viaero staff was incredibly kind and accomodating to our family during every part of this event. They included us in the team dinner the night before the start. They treated us like a part of the team. They had treats and snacks for the kids. Really- they were awesome. :)
Lige's team included Viaero staff, vendors, and customers. Here are some of them at the end of the final day:
