Toasty Memories

One of our most favorite things to do as a family, weather permitting, is light a fire in our fire pit. We would do this every weekend if it wasn't for the unpredictible Nebraska wind that can come sweeping down the plain at any given moment. (Don't even get me started on the Father's Day 2007 Debacle!!) Last weekend, however, the weather was perfect, so we got a roaring fire going. And what good is a fire without any marshmellows?! Of course we had to toast a few!

Can you tell we enjoyed them?! :)

While sitting around the fire enjoying our toasted marshmellows, the kids asked us to tell them about camping trips we took as kids. It was fun to think back on many good memories and share them with our children.
As the night wore on, we got quieter. I peeked around and saw us all just staring peacefully into the fire. There is something calming about shutting out the noises of life: the t.v., the phones, even the noise of the dishwasher. Suddenly you hear the breeze rustling the trees instead. The chirping birds settling in for sleep remind us that God is the Creator, and He makes everything beautiful in it's time. As we wrapped up our night, we wrapped up our children in our arms. And it was a reminder of how God holds us, His children, lovingly and happily. We each took a turn saying something we were thankful for and something that we loved. What a special night. Full of toasty memories not soon forgotten.

***On a side note, this is my 150th blog post! How exciting! Thank you all for joining me on this journey into the lives of the Deertales Clan. It's been fun for me, thereputic at times, and a special creative outlet. This blog started as a way to keep far-off family feeling a little bit closer. It has since turned into so much more. I'm glad you've become a part of it.***
