He also really loved the latest Minion movie, so the Minion legos were a big hit, too!
Isaac was a good sport after gifts. Lige and I have led a college Bible study throughout the summer and decided to wrap it up with a kayak trip down the Platte River. Coordinating so many schedules proved hard, and the best night was Isaac's birthday. He graciously agreed to let us go on one condition: the college kids had to come over for late night cake and fireworks after kayaking! Who were we to disappoint?!
So we had college kids over for cake at 11pm. We started with fireworks, then came in to sing "Happy Birthday" and eat cake.
Amana made Isaac's cake. He wanted a Minden Whippet cake, so purple and white with huge pawprint was what he got! Amana loves to do this...I'm always torn between letting her bless her siblings like this and wanting to do it myself as the Mom. Maybe I'll make Lucy's? :)
I promise Isaac is laughing here, not crying, as the college kids sang "Happy Birthday." He LOVED it.
I didn't mind when Isaac turned five. It was a safe milestone. Somehow turning six felt bigger. Older. Further away from me. Lucky for me he still needs me to tie his shoes!
Six Spectacular Things About Isaac at Six:
- Isaac gives the best "neck hugs". They are super tight hugs around the neck. I think there's usually some type of growling involved, too.
- Isaac has a great memory for facts. He especially loves all things involving history.
- Although we're working on it, he still makes the "sh" sound for many "ch" words and has open "r" sounds...like I said, we're working on it, but I just love the special little ways he speaks.
- Isaac asks a lot of questions, but not the annoying "why, why, why" kind. He just truly wants to know about things.
- A favorite phrase Isaac has been saying lately is, "And last but not least..." I'm not sure where he picked it up, but he uses it appropriately and it always makes me smile.
- Isaac is officially in homeschool Kindergarten and a half. He's a bit advanced in some areas for kindergarten, but has other areas that aren't quite first grade, so we're just starting where he is. He is actively participating in our normal school day this year. Last year we did it when he was interested, this year he HAS to do it. So far, he is doing very well. :)
