Heaven and Harrison

The other night Lige and Harrison had a deep and intense conversation.  While they were watching TV together, Harrison suddenly looked to Lige with tears in his eyes.  He asked,"Daddy?  Are you going to die?"

This question was a spring board into a spiritual conversation. Lige was able to share how, yes, he was going to die someday, but that was okay because he knew and loved Jesus.  He explained that we all sin and need a savior, Jesus, and when we accept his sacrificial death and resurrection on our behalf, we can know we will spend forever in Heaven with God.  Harrison was slightly mollified by this answer, but the conversation continued,

"But Dad, how will you get home?"

I won't come home, I'll be in heaven.

"I don't want to die because I will miss my home."

If you accept Jesus, He will prepare a house for you in heaven that is so wonderful you won't miss our house.

"Will Nanny be in heaven?"

Yes, son, I believe Nanny will be in heaven.

(and quite as somber as all the rest, he asks finally)

"Do you think she'll remember to bring my bunk beds?"

Oh sweet boy!  Lige said he had to hug Harrison close to him so he wouldn't see his daddy laughing right then!  It ended on a funny note, but I'm thankful that they began a conversation of eternal consequence that night.  I'm glad my son felt he could ask his dad what he thought was a scary, sad question...knowing he could trust Lige with the answer.  I pray that a seed was planted in his heart that will continue to grow.  I pray Harrison would become a mighty warrior for the LORD.
